Lower-spin models can also appear here. A TSR4 at an attractive price still needs to produce enough height and carry for your swing. Its specialist design does not make it an automatic upgrade from a TSR2.

What Do Titleist’s 1, 2, 3 and 4 Model Numbers Mean?

The numbers identify different designs within a generation. They are not handicap categories or a ranking from basic to advanced.

The details change between generations. GT4 has a compact 430cc head, for example, while GTS4 moves to 460cc. Always read the complete model name.

TS, TSi and Earlier Titleist Drivers

Earlier generations offer a way to compare Titleist without committing to a recent-model budget. Focus on the complete specification and condition of each listing.

Avoid treating an older D2 or D3 as identical to a modern 2 or 3 model. Head shapes, weight systems and fitting options have changed.

GTS2, GTS3 and GTS4

GTS introduces a dual-weight system across the driver family. GTS2 uses front and rear weight positions. GTS3 and GTS4 combine a forward adjustable track with a rear weight.

GTS2 is the starting point for stability across the face. GTS3 offers more targeted control, while GTS4 remains the strongest spin-reducing option within the family.

GTS4’s move to 460cc is a meaningful difference from GT4. If you previously ruled out a 4 model because you disliked its compact appearance, compare the newer shape before applying the same judgement.

What If You Need a Lighter Driver?

Look at the complete build, particularly when considering a GT1 or another lightweight configuration.

A lighter head paired with a heavier replacement shaft may feel different from the original specification. Grip weight and playing length also contribute to the club you receive.

How Do Titleist SureFit Settings Work?

SureFit uses a numbered sleeve and lettered ring to provide 16 loft and lie combinations. Check both characters when recording a setting.

The standard position is A1 for right-handed drivers and D4 for left-handed drivers. Use the correct chart for your handedness, as the same setting code does not have the same meaning on both charts.

Start with a suitable head and shaft, then use adjustment to refine the result. Test loft and lie changes methodically rather than assuming one setting will cure a slice.

Shaft, Playing Length and Fitted Weights

Check the shaft’s full model, weight and flex. Two shafts marked “stiff” can offer different weight and feel, and a used club may no longer have its original shaft.

Playing length deserves attention too. Confirm the finished club length if you are replacing a known setup or considering a shorter build.

On adjustable heads, identify the fitted weights and their positions. These can affect the feel and flight of the club. Additional weights, a wrench and a headcover should only be assumed included when the listing says so.

Should You Consider a Titleist Mini Driver?

The GT280 offers a different option for golfers looking for an alternative tee club. Its 280cc head, 13° loft and standard 43.5-inch playing length place it between a conventional driver and a fairway wood.

Compare it with the club you use on tighter holes. Does it improve accuracy while retaining enough distance? If you also intend to use it from the fairway, test that shot separately.
