With a loft between 48-52 degrees, a gap wedge is longer than a pitching wedge and shorter than a sand wedge, making it useful for both hitting the ball higher or getting more distance. A pitching wedge will really send the ball flying while the sand relies on loft to cover some ground quickly.

A 52 degree wedge replaces the pitching wedge and can be used to hit a golf ball high in the air but with a shorter distance of around 75 to 100 yards.

It’s also used for taking chip shots, where the ball doesn’t have to travel far. It goes up gently and quickly without rolling up too much.
