Is a 46 Degree Wedge a Pitching Wedge?

It can be.

Where Should 46 Degrees Fit in Your Wedge Setup?

If your pitching wedge is already around 46 degrees, another 46 degree wedge would normally duplicate the same loft unless you are replacing the original or deliberately want a different type of head.

If your pitching wedge is stronger, around 42 to 44 degrees, adding 46 degrees can create a useful first step into your specialist wedges.

How Far Should a 46 Degree Wedge Go?

There is no standard distance a 46 degree wedge should travel.

Carry depends on swing speed, strike, shaft, club construction and whether you are making a full or partial swing.

Instead of aiming for a universal number, compare the 46 degree wedge with the clubs either side.

It should produce a repeatable carry that sits clearly below your 9 iron or stronger pitching wedge and above the next wedge in your setup.

Should the Next Wedge Be 50 or 52 Degrees?

Both can work.
